Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice

The leaves are changing color, the air is getting a little cooler, and summer seems like a distant memory. That means that its that time of the year again when pumpkin-pie spice flavored everything make its long-awaited appearance!

So, if you crave the beloved pumpkin spice latte, or any of the ever-expanding list of pumpkin spice flavored items available each autumn, why not make your own pumpkin-pie spice blend!

Making your own spice blend costs less than buying the store-bought variety, especially if you already have most of the spices in your pantry. You can also tinker around with the spices, adding more of your favorites, or excluding those that you dislike or can't tolerate.

While you can use it to spice-up your lattes, pies, and other baked goods, you can also sprinkle it over roasted winter squash, jazz up whipped coconut cream, or add to whatever else takes your fancy! This recipe would also make a nice gift for the pumpkin spice lovers in your life. Just put it in a cute jar and add a ribbon!

Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice


  • 2 tbsp cinnamon

  • 1 tbsp ground ginger

  • 1/2 tbsp cloves

  • 1/2 tbsp mace

  • 1/2 tbsp allspice*

  • 1/2 tbsp nutmeg*


  • Measure all spices into a bowl and combine until evenly blended

  • Yields approximately 2.5 oz

  • Store in an airtight jar up to 1 year

* Exclude these spices if you are following the Autoimmune Protocol, unless you are certain you can tolerate them without consequence. Replace with extra cinnamon or other spices of choice.
